Mayor's Court --There were but two cases before this Court yesterday worth mentioning. The first was that of Miss Laura Gordon, charged with being engaged in the riot on Main and Cary streets on a recent occasion. The principal witness against her was a little boy named Lawrence Martin, who said she was in the party, and gave him a piece of meat to carry home. The case was continued until the 27th inst. John Butler was brought up for cutting Albert N. Handler on the head in a street row on Thursday evening. The instrument with which the wound was inflicted (a heavy Bowie knife) was produced in Court. The point appeared to have been blunted by coming in contact with Handler's head. The latter was in Court with his head tied up, and looked as if he had received a severe wound. Butler was sent before the Hustings Court for further examination.
Court, April 27. --Peter Kennedy was examined for stealing a herring seine from A. E. Tucker, of the value of $50. He was sent before the Hustings Court for further examination. The examination of Michael Murphy, on the charge of violently assaulting and beating Peter Harmon, was continued until the 18th inst. John Branley was committed until the 28th, on the charge of assaulting Catherine Burke in her own house, and annoying the neighborhood in which he lived. Woodson, slave of George Duggan, charged with stealing 300 pounds of beacon from Frederick Weidmeyer, was committed until the 29th for a further hearing. John, slave of John Stewart, was whipped for stealing one pig, of the value of $70, from Augustus Black. The case of Miss Laura Gordon, charged with being engaged in the recent riot, was party heard, and continued for other evidence. The case of Ford, for the murder of Dixon, comes up before the Mayor to day, on its preliminary examination.
