Assaulted by a negro. --On Monday afternoon a little son of Mrs. Martha Farmer, while engaged at play with some of his comrades, in the lower end of the city, accidentally struck with a stone a free negro woman named Emeline Harris, which so enraged her that she fell aboard of him with a stout whip and laid it so heavily on his back as to raise several large walks, as well as draw the blood from the scare. The negro afterwards appeared very penitent, and after vainly entreating Mrs. F to let the outrage pass by unnoticed, offered to bribe her in any amount which she would require. She was subsequently arrested and severely punished at the whipping post for her conduct.
