entrapped a wealthy citizen of that city, inducing him to convert his property into specie and make a trip with her into Mexico where she poisoned him and appropriated his fortune. She has been arrested. Revs. G. W. Carter, C. C. Gillespie and J. C. Wilkes of Chapel Hill, Texas, have been authorized to raise a regiment of lancers for the war. The Fort Smith (Ark.) News, of the 2d inst., says that a skirmish with the Jayha where in Kansas took place a few days ago, in which seven of them were killed and three taken prisoners. The Governor of South Carolina has issued a proclamation calling for 12,000 volunteers, "to be furnished for a term of service not less than twelve months, unless sooner discharged." Mr. Henry Hite, of Nashville, Tenn., committed suicide at that place on the 10th inst., by taking prison. A wharf boat St. Paducah, used as a depot for commissary stores, sunk a few days since, with 800 tons of sugar, coffee, flour and provisions generally.
