"Union Meeting" in Berkeley. --A meeting of "Union-loving" citizens was held in Martinsburg, Berkeley county, Va., last week, and after the adoption of a long preamble and resolutions, nominated C. M. Shaffer and B. M. Kitchen for the General Assembly, and John Janney for the Northern Congress. Alluding to the meeting, that conservative journal, the Alexandria Gazette, says: We have not a word to say against the worth, respectability and intelligence of those who composed the meeting. Their language is earnest and determined — but it is respectful, and, as citizens of a free Commonwealth, called by law to decide upon the subject which they discuss, they are entitled to hold and express their opinions, in their county meeting, freely and fearlessly. It is probable, too, that some not agreeing with them in their conclusions as to the best course now to be adopted, may unite with them, in dissenting from some of the movements in this State. Marshal of the District is vigorously enforcing the confiscation act, and has seized the fine house of Charles J, Wallach, of the rebel army. Mosby is near Grove Creek, Loudoun county, with 300 cavalry. At a Virginia Union Convention in Alexandria, Va., Pierpont was nominated for Governor, and a Mr. Minor, of Alexandria, for Lieutenant-Governor, B. M. Kitchen, of Berkeley county, is nominated for Congress in the 7th district. The Herald has an editorial on "The general campaign — the splendid fighting qualities of our armies, and their cheering prospects." It says from Gen. In the Yankee House, last week, Mr. Davis called up the report of the committee on declaring B. M. Kitchen not entitled to a seat as a representative from the seventh district of Virginia: The coustify themselves; there has been such freedom of elections as to warrant the conclusion that Mr. Kitchen is the choice of the loyal voters of the entire district. A greater portion failed to partic Mr. Smith, (Ky,) of minority of the committee, contended there was prime facte evidence that Mr. Kitchen was the choice of his district. Mr. Whaley (W. Va.) briefly contended that, as theld a Congressional election therein. The committee desired to set a precedent not only as to Mr. Kitchen, but as to all others under similar circumstances. The House adopted the resolution declaring Mr. Kitchen not entitled to a seat. Butler razed.
