break our line, two of our batteries took positions well selected, and cross-fired them with grape and canister, as soon as they came within range, with terrible effect. The names of many officers who displayed conspicuous bravery on the bloody field of Prairie Grove could be mentioned, but as there were probably others, whose names I did not get, who displayed equal bravery, it would be unjust to make any discrimination.
