We have been furnished with the following extract from a letter bearing just testimony to this gallant officer, who was so severely wounded aboard the Louisiana in the naval battle below New Orleans.
We learn that when he reached New Orleans to take command of this steamer he found her engines nea rried into the battle, but should be retained as a floating battery at the city.
But popular feeling in New Orleans urged that she should go down the river, and McIntosh did not hesitate to obey orders and take her into the hottest of the action.
The letter says:
"It affords me great pleasure to testify to the gallantry an point of death from wounds received while fighting for his country.
I arrived on board the Louisiana on the morning of the 23d of April. Throughout the day Captain McIntosh manifested the greatest energy in spurring the workmen on, remaining on deck the whole time, and passing a sleepless night, in his haste and zeal to prepare
