Miller, and who represented himself as being connected with one of the largest leather and hide establishments in New York, swindled a banking institution of St. Louis out of $300 last week, by means of a forged check upon Hardenburg & Co., of New York. The draft was for $6,500, and such was the confidence of the bank officers in the probity of the rogue that they would have paid him the full amount on the spot, but he modestly restricted his demand to three hundred dollars.
