scene manner, on Monday, was ordered to be committed; but Henry Parkhurst going her ball in $100, she was released from custody. Wm. S. Conley, Charged with cutting, stabbing and wounding Mary J. McMinn, on 2d street, was committed for examination on the 22d inst. Fines of $2 each were imposed on Messrs. John H. Greanor, M. G. Whitman, James Tyrer, Christian Kinsey, and Mrs. Susan Tyrer and Catherine Williams, for their children throwing rocks in the street. Sarah, slave of Wm. W. Minor, was ordered to be whipped for using obscene and violent language to Joanna Shehan. Owen Riley and Elias Vanderlip, a citizen of Richmond, were required to answer the charge of garroting Lindsay Smith, a soldier, on Saturday night, on Grace street, and robbing him of $107. The soldier, as previously stated, testified positively as to the identity of the men who robbed him; but some half a dozen witnesses were introduced on the part of the defence to prove that they were not the men w
ition thereto, we will set aside one other tenth, to be sold to the Government at the prices obtaining before the war, and taking the payment there for in Confederate bonds; and that all the rest of our surplus products shall be sold at or below the schedule fixed by the State Commissioners, either to the Government or consumers, and that we will invest the proceeds of such sales, as far as practicable, is Confederate bonds. 2d. That professional men, and mechanics, will pay in one-tenth additional tax. 3d. That a committee of five be appointed to secure the signatures of citizens to this pledge, and carry out the purpose of the resolutions. The Chairman appointed Messrs. Wm. W. Minor, Wm. H. Southall, Shelton F. Leake, Richard H. Crank, and Wm. T. Earley a committee under the third resolution, to which, on motion, the Chairman of the meeting was added. Papers were circulated in the meeting, and a large number of wealthy and influential gentlemen signed the pledge.
