amed James Williams, and he himself is also considered to be a deserter. There were also found upon Lee's premises six barrels of corn and other goods, supposed to be stolen; all of which, together with the timber found, was hauled away by Constable Robinson to a place of safety. It is said that these marauders were engaged several nights in taking down Smith's house, and that they were supplied with wagons, axes, and everything else necessary to enable them, to carry on their operations. The first intimation Smith had of his loss was on Friday or Saturday last, when he rode down there to make an examination of the premises preparatory to converting it into a dwelling-house. His consternation on finding the house gone can better be imagined than described. The parties arrested were taken before Justice Nettles on Monday morning, and after an examination of the evidence against them, they were sent on for trial before the County Court. Bail was allowed for their appearance.
