hat Colonel Orr had ordered him to move his command to the railroad bridge by order of General Beauregard. Thus my plans were overthrown, a train of cars burned laden with public stores, and a few yards of the railroad track displaced. I beg leave to call the attention of the general commanding to the gallant manner in which the officers and men under my command conducted themselves before the enemy. The entire command numbered 76 enlisted men-parts of three companies-commanded by Captains Parish, McKnight, and Morton (Lieutenant-Colonel Mcl:airy present). The enemy had near 2,000 of our sick prisoners, which were released upon examination of the damages done at the depot. I found the house burned; also that 6 corpses and 3 live soldiers, who were too sick to help themselves, were burned on the train and in the depot house.
