aph went the rounds of the press making a Yankee hero out of one Lieut. Payne, who was said to have rescued from drowning one Lieut. Henry, a Confederate officer, who held said Payne as a prisoner at the time of his salvation from a watery grave in this manner. The story appears to no Lieut. Henry in the case, and the Confederate officer was named Payne. The Enquirer, of yesterday, puts the story right upon the best aut In the first place the Confederate officer (not the other) was Lieut. Payne, of the 4th Virginia cavalry, (the "Black Horse,") the Yankee waenry in the case at all. In the second place, Stone did not save Lieut Payne's life. The latter had already extricated himself from the currone excited the admiration of mankind by actually going to visit Lieut.
