re inconveniences attending this first school of 1719-20, for the next year the question of division was brought up, and at an adjourned meeting, Dec. 12, 1720, it was voted that the Town will Raise eight Pounds money for ye Suport and incoragment of ye School ye ensuing Winter in each part of ye Town namely ye East and West Ends of sd Town. To sett up wr it shall best acomodate each Respective end of ye Town and ye money granted to be equaly Devided between each school. Jonathan Tufts, Peter Secomb, John Willis were appointed a committee for the east part, and Capt. Samuel Brooks, Lieut. Stephen Hall, John Whitmore for the west part. The committee for the east chose, as you know, the first teacher, Henry Davison, and the committee for the west chose Caleb Brooks, probably a nephew of the committeeman, a son of his brother Ebenezer. Where these schools were kept is a matter of conjecture simply, but it seems reasonable to suppose that the one at the west end was on Grove street or
