Sherman, Henry 1808-1879 Lawyer; born in Albany, N. Y., March 6, 1808; graduated at Yale College in 1829; later settled in New York City, where he remained till 1850, when he removed to Hartford, Conn.; was connected with the United States Treasury Department in 1861-68, and was offered the chief justiceship of New Mexico by President Lincoln on the morning before the latter's assassination. He published An Analytical digest of the law of marine insurance to the present time; The governmental history of the United States of America; and Slavery in the United States of America. He died in Washington, D. C., March 28, 1879.
