Straus, Oscar Solomon 1850-
Diplomatist; born in Otterberg, Rhenish Bavaria, Dec. 23, 1850; was brought to the United States in 1854; graduated at Columbia College in 1871 and at the Columbia Law School in 1873; United States minister to Turkey in 1887-89; reappointed in 1898.
He is the author of The origin of the Republican form of government in the United States; Roger Williams, the pioneer of religious liberty; and The development of religious liberty in the United States.
