ed like a felon in a jail in Cumberland, Maryland, whence he has contrived a letter to his wife describing the ignominious treatment to which he had been subjected. But, with the spirit of a patriot and the love of a father, he says to his children and grandchildren, that "the liberty and independence of themselves and their native land is worth all that I have done or suffered, and as much more as I may be called on to do or suffer."
