Richard Price Hallowell, son of Morris Longstreth Hallowell and Hannah Smith (Penrose), was born in Philadelphia, Pa., December 16, 1835. He was a descendant of John Hallowell, who came to Derby, Pa., from Hucknow, England, about 682, the line being Morris L.6, Charles Tyson5, Caleb4, William3, Thomas2, John1. Mr. Hallowell entered Haverford College in 1849. He came to Boston as a wool merchant in 1857 and continued until a few years before his death, when he retired from business. October 10, 1859, he married, in Philadelphia, Miss Anna Coffin Davis, granddaughter of Lucretia Mott of wide and noble fame, and took up his residence in Medford, where he lived until his death.
