all persons found in that place, and immediately sent forward pickets to guard the pass at Elliott's Mills and other approaches from Columbus. The remainder of the forces, conveyed by transports,eight miles, thence north on the road to Columbus to Weston's, five miles, and returning by Elliott's Mills to Fort Jefferson, nine miles.
