ge sum of money in gold and silver coin and Confederate notes from W. A. Whitaker. The jury, after having fully heard the evidence of witnesses and the arguments of counsel, returned a verdict of guilty and assessed his farm of confinement in the penitentiary at three years. Sentence was thereupon pronounced by the Judge. The jury summoned to sit in the case of James H. Wilson alias Toombs indicted, with stealing a horse from John B. Stevens, after hearing the testimony of witnesses and the arguments of counsel, returned a verdict of acquittal. Upon the rendition of the verdict, it appearing that Toombs was a deserter from the C. S. army, the Judge corrected that he be taken before Gen. Winder. George Wise, indicted for stealing a gold watch from George D. Wooton, was then examined, and the testimony of witnesses proving his guilt a verdict of guilty was rendered by the jury, assessing him with a confinement of four months in the city jail, to which place he was remanded.
