Clarke, Sir Alured 1745-1832
Military officer; born in 1745; joined the British army in 1765; came to America, and during the Revolutionary War was lieutenant-colonel of the 7th Foot.
When the British took Savannah, Ga., he was placed in command of the city, and by the strict discipline of his troops and his courtesy to the inhabitants won their good will.
He died in September, 1832.
