Adolpho Wolfe removed to the city of New York in 1826, and entered the counting-house of his elder brother Joel Wolfe, who was then largely engaged in the importation of brandy and gin from France and Holland. Young Wolfe's business qualification and energetic perseverance soon gave him a prominent position in the house of his brother, and when he reached the age of 21 he became a partner.
