The Daily Dispatch: March 23, 1861., [Electronic resource], Death of a Noted vagrant. (search)
The Weather for some time back has possessed all the characteristics of winter, although the almanacs, by a way of a joke, call it spring.
We had a touch of the "balmy" in February, when we didn't care about it; and the tender buds that peeped out to see what was going on have since been nipped prematurely by the frost of March.
Yesterday the weather exhibited symptoms of improvement, but the quality of the article that has been so freely supplied of late makes us say what we do say, that we should be in a most uncomfortable fix if we "had nothing else but spring." We hope March will "march on" in a hurry, and take all his wind instruments with him to a Northern latitude, where snow and ice are among the attributes of May.
