[from the London times of November 28] Southampton, Wednesday.--By the arrival cers this morning of the West India mall steamer La Plata, Capt. Weller, most important intelligence has been received, involving questions affecting the relations existing between this country and the Federal Government of America. The mail steamer Trent, Captain Moir, was intercepted by the American steamer San Jacinto, commanded by Captain Wilkes, while on her passage from Havana to St. Thomas, and under force of arms, the accredited Commissioners to Europe from the Southern Confederacy, Messrs. Mason and Slidell, were taken prisoners and forcibly taken from the Trent to the San Jacinto.--This act was committed in defiance of the joint remonstrance of the Commissioners, Cpt. Moir, and Commander Williams, the naval officer in charge of the mail on board the
