The gas works. --It has already been announced that the "tiles," so necessary to the manufacture of this article, and in default of which we were in danger of being deprived of the use of gas, were on the way to Richmond. We learn that even if they did not come the works are abundantly able to supply lighting material to all private families.--As the "tiles" are at Wilmington, North Carolina, it will be perceived that the prospect of an abundance of light is very encouraging. In view of the prospective scarcity of lighting material, the action of the "Committee on Light" assumes an importance not hitherto attached to it. It assembles in the Council Chamber of the City Hall at 4 o'clock this evening, where all persons having business with it would do well to attend. There is every prospect of the people being soon favored with light from above — gas, we may say, from an ethereal reservoir — the moon having for the past few nights presented unmistakable indications of an intent
