A report was currrent in Charleston last Sunday that four British officers had arrived in Savannah and tendered their services to General Lee. The Memphis Appeal, of the 19th, mentions a report that Gen. Beauregard was sick at Jackson, Tenn, but not too sick to give military orders. A company is organizing for the manufacture of small arms and ordnance at or near the town of Charlotte, N. C. Captain John D. Wylie, of S. C., has, it is said, received and accepted the appointment of Chief Engineer in Gen. Beauregard's staff. The gunboats in course of construction at Pensacola are nearly ready for launching. "A struggle for liberty or death is upon us. We must all become soldiers, and the sooner the better." The news agency building of Mr. J. P. Bell, in Lynchburg, Va., was considerably damaged by fire on Friday last.
