Shut up. --During our peregrinations yesterday, on Broad and Maid streets, we noticed that several of the stores were closed, and the following card posted on the doors: "Gone with the militia — will return when the war is at an end. By order of John Letcher." The suspension appeared to be general among druggists, as we noticed but one open for business.

Governor in required to organize and call out a special force from certain cities and corporations for the defence of the State. He is forthwith to prescribe regulations for calling out and rendering this force sufficient. Now, therefore, I, John Letcher, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, by virtue of the authority aforesaid, do hereby order and prescribe the following, and require the officers hereafter mentioned to execute this law and these provisions with promptness and energy. Th. This force is to hold itself in readinees at all times for draft, after the draft upon the First Class is exhausted. Given under my hand as Governor and under the seal of the Commonwealth, at Richmond, this 13th day of March, 1862, and in the year of the Commonwealth the 26th. John Letcher.
