o one of the companies of this gallant corps, and utterly unfound, has been put in circulation. It was with reference to that company and the defence on the river below against the gunboats. The 3d company of the battalion Capt. Miller, was on the 13th ordered to Chapin's Bluff, or some other convenient; point on the north bank of the river, to co-operate in the defence with the batteries on Drewry's Bluff. On the evening of 14th, they were, by order of Gen. Lee, directed to report to Gen. Johnston. This order was delivered by an artillery company from Montgomery, Alabama, which came to take its place, Capt. Miller then, on the night of the 14th, joined the battalion, and was not at the scene of the battle with the gunboats on the 15th. The rumor, therefore, with reference to this company not firing, and the reason therefore, is without foundation. Certainly the Washington Artillery has proved its high reputation sufficiently to discredit any rumor which might reflect upon it.
New map. --Messrs. West & Johnston, of this city, have just published a large map of the State of Virginia, containing all the counties and principal towns, and showing the lines of railroad and other internal improvements. It seems to have been prepared with great care, and will be found very useful for reference at the present time.
