Mexico, Maximilian, &c. The New York News, commenting upon the resolution of Winter Davis, adopted unanimously by the House of Representatives, to the effect that the United States will not recognize any monarchical Government erected on this continent by any European power upon the ruins of any American Republic, pronounces The News tells us that had the resolution of Mr. Davis been unanimously adopted, as it has been now, when Napoleon first unmasked his scheme of aggrandizement in Mexico, he would have been deterred from prosecuting it to its present point. We doubt that exceedingly. Napoleon had every reason to expect some such movement on the ly no objection to an honorable peace, but it does not care one farthing for the Monroe doctrine, and it feels no desire to protect or extend upon this continent such republicanism as is current either in Mexico or in "the best Government the world ever saw." It may form an alliance with Maximilian, but with Yankee Doodle never.
