tter at par, have been brought to terms, or grief, in the following order: Headquarters Department of the Gulf,New Orleans, August 22, 1864. General Orders, No. 112. The banks of the State of Louisiana having so far failed to comply with important provisions of the laws of the State as to justify the forfeiture of their charters, are hereby required, as a condition of the further transaction of the business of banking, to receive the treasury notes of the United States in exchange at par for their own issues respectfully.--Any institution aggrieved by this order may demand investigation of its affairs and show that its credit is superior to that of the United States. Reynold, from New Orleans, were arrested at Natchez, Mississippi, for having false bottoms to their trunks filled with medicine to be run into the Confederate lines.
