ἀποξύω [υ_], fut. -ξύσω,
A.= ἀποξέω, scrape off, τι Thphr.HP9.4.4; “τὸν καττίτερον” IG7.303.15 (Oropus), cf. Dsc.5.79:—Med., “φάρμακον” D.Chr.32.44: abs., scrape oneself, Plin.HN34.62.
2. metaph., strip off as it were a skin, “γῆρας ἀποξύσας θήσει νέον” Il.9.446, cf. Nosti Fr.6; κόρυζαν ἀποξύσας (prob. f.l. for ἀπομύξας) Luc.Nav.45; τὸ ἐρυθριᾶν ἀ. τοῦ προσώπου v.l. in Id.Vit.Auct.10: so in Pass., “ἀπέξυσται τὴν αἰδῶ τοῦ προσώπου” Alciphr.3.40:—Med., scrape off, “φάρμακον” D.Chr.32.44.
