Type A skyphos

A deep, stemless drinking cup with two handles and a low, torus foot, if any.

Shape: The defining characteristics of this type of skyphos are the handles, which are level or almost level with the rim. In some cases the handles are both horizontal (upper illustration), while in others, one is horizontal and the other is vertical (lower illustration).

Term: Beazley categorizes this skyphos as Type A, as opposed to his Type B and Corinthian skyphoi.
