ἀνασκευ-άζω ,
A.pack up the baggage (τὰ σκεύη), and so, carry away, remove, “τὴν ἀγορὰν εἴσω” X.An.6.2.8, etc.; ἀ. τοὺς Ἀθηναίους ἐκ θαλάττης divert them from naval enterprise, Philostr.VS1.17.3, cf.1.25.7:— in Med., break up camp, march away, Th.1.18; “κατεσκευάζετο καὶ πάλιν ἀ.” X.Cyr.8.5.2, etc.
2. dismantle a place, Th.4.116:—in Med., dismantle one's house or city, Id.1.18.
3. waste, ravage, X.Cyr.6.2.25 (Pass.); ἀ. τὰς συνθήκας break them, Plb.9.31.6:—in Med., “τάφον” Plu.2.578f.
4. Pass., to be bankrupt, “τῆς τραπέζης ἀνασκευασθείσης” D.33.9, cf. 49.68; οἱ ἀνεσκευασμένοι τῶν τραπεζιτῶν broken bankers, ibid.: metaph., “ἀνεσκευάσμεθα” E.El.602.
5. of logicians, demolish opponent's arguments, definitions, etc., opp. κατασκευάζειν, Arist.APr.43a2, cf. Rh.1401b4, Str.1.2.18, Polystr. p.24 W.
6. reverse a decision or judgement, Vett. Val.283.23 (Pass.): metaph., ἀ. ψυχάς disturb, opp. οἰκοδομέω, Act.Ap.15.24, cf.9.31.
7. Medic., remove, “νόσον” Sor.2.8.
II. build again, remodel, Str.16.1.5:—also in Med., build, “οἴκους” J.BJ6.5.2.
