ἆσσον (Dor. ἄσσιον acc. to Eust.1643.32), Adv. Comp. of ἄγχι:—
A.nearer, esp. of hostile approach, “ἆσσον ἴτ᾽Il.1.567, al., cf. Hes.Th.748; “τείχεος . ἴσανIl.22.4, cf. Hdt.4.3, Ar.Eq.1306; simply of approach, “γυναῖχ᾽ ὁρῶ στείχουσαν ἡμῶν .S.OC312, cf. El.900; of a woman, “ἥτις ἀνδρῶν . οὐκ ἐλήλυθενAr.Eq.1306; “δίφρον . ἕλκεται πυρόςSemon.7.26: c. dat., S.OC722: with double Comp., “ἕρποντι μᾶλλον ἆσσονId.Ant.1210: Sup. “ἄσσισταA.Fr.6; “ἄσισταIG5(2).159.17 (Tegea), Michel1334 (Elis, iv B. II. hence new Comp. ἀσσοτέρω , with or without gen., Od.19.506, 17.572; later Comp. Adj. ἀσσότερος , = ἐγγύτερος, Arat.878: Sup. Adv. “ἀσσοτάτωAP9.430 (Crin.): Sup. Adj. ἀσσότατος ib.6.345 (Id.).
