ἐγχα^λι_νόω ,
A.put a bit in the mouth of, “ἵππον” Babr.76.14:—Pass., τὰ στόματα ἐγκεχαλινωμένους having the bit in their mouths, Hdt.3.14, cf. X.An.7.2.21.
2. metaph., Ph.1.117:—Pass., τὸν δῆμον ἐγκεχαλινωμένον τῇ ὀλιγαρχία held in check by the oligarchy, Plu.Lys.21; “ὀργή -ωμένη τῷ λόγῳ” Them.Or.17.214d.
3. metaph. of reins, to be in the form of a bit, Hp.Oss.19.
