II. mouthband of leather put like a halter round the lips of fifers or pipers, to assist them in regulating the sound, Ar.V.582 (anap.), Plu.2.456b: hence φυσᾷ . . φορβειᾶς ἄτερ blows the pipes without this check, i. e. too loud, S.Fr.768.
