πα^λύνω ,
A.strew, sprinkle, λεύκ᾽ ἄλφιτα πολλὰ πάλυνον (i.e. sprinkled in water, expld. by Sch. ἔμασσον, ἔφυρον) Il.18.560; “ἐπὶ δ᾽ ἄλφιτα λευκὰ παλύνειν” Od.10.520, cf. 11.28, etc.; “τι ἐπί τινι” S.Ant.247.
II. bestrew, besprinkle, with dat. of the thing sprinkled, “παλύνας ἀλφίτου ἀκτῇ” Od. 14.429:—Pass., “ἁ σῦριγξ εὐρῶτι παλύνεται” Theoc.4.28.
2. of liquids, “κάρην ἱδρῶτι παλῦναι” D.P.1049.
3. besmear, “ἰξῷ” AP10.11 (Satyr.), cf. A.R. 3.1256 (Pass.).
III. cover lightly, “χιὼν ἐπάλυνεν ἀρούρας” Il.10.7; “νιφετῷ δ᾽ ἐπαλύνετο πάντα” A.R.3.69.
