στρούθ-ειος , α, ον,
A.of an ostrich, “ᾠόνPMich.Zen.9r.2 (iii B.C.); ὀειὸν ( = ᾠόν τρούθ[ιον] Sammelb.7243.21 (iv A.D.); cf. στρουθός fin.
2. (sc. κρέας),= passerina caro, Gloss. (written stroiton).
II. -ειον μῆλον, τό, a kind of quince, Pyrus Cydonia, AP6.252 (Antiphil.); so without μῆλον, Nic.Al.234; also written στρούθιον, Thphr.HP2.2.5, Dsc. 1.115, cf. Philem.1, Gal.6.450 (parox.), 602.
III. -ειον,= “στρουθός111, soap-wort, Saponaria officinalis, Orph.A.960, Hp.Nat.Mul. 32, Thphr.HP6.4.3, Eub.104 (lyr.), PCair.Zen.430.15 (iii B.C.), Dsc.2.163, POxy.1088.26 (i A.D.), Aret.CA1.2; usu. written στρούθιον in codd., but στρούθειον in Orph.l.c., corroborated by the metre and by στρούθεον in PCair.Zen.l.c.; the metre is doubtful in Eub. l.c.; both στρούθιον and -ειον are found in PHolm.., 15.2, al., 25.22.
