A.“ἀπήντων” Th.4.127, Dor. 3sg. “ἀπάντη” BionFr.9.7: fut. “ἀπαντήσω” Arist.Rh.Al.1432b35, Plb.4.26.5, etc.; but better “-ήσομαι” Th.4.77, 7.2 and 80, X.HG1.6.3, Lys.2.32, etc.: aor. “ἀπήντησα” E.Ph.1392, Th.2.20: pf. “ἀπήντηκα” Ar.Lys.420, D.18.15:—the Med., used in act. sense by Polyaen.1.21.1 (impf.), al., is censured by Luc.Lex.25; so also pf. “ἀπήντημαι” Plb.2.37.6, D.H.6.88, etc.
I. mostly of persons, move from a place to meet a person, and generally, meet, encounter, “τινί” Hdt.8.9, E.Supp.772, etc.; “ἐξ ἐναντίας ἀ.” Pl.Lg.893e; ἀ. ταῖς ὁμοίαις φύσεσι encounter, fall in with them, D.60.20: abs., “ὁ ἀεὶ ἀπαντῶν” any one that meets you, any chance person, Pl. R.563c; “οἱ ἀπαντῶντες” D.36.45, Alex.78, cf. 87.
b. freq. with a Prep., ἀ. τινὶ εἰς τόπον come or go to a place to meet him, meet him at a place, Hdt.2.75; “ἐς τωὐτό” 6.84; “ἐπὶ Τριποδίσκον” Th.4.70; τὸν μὲν ἐς τὰς Σίφας ἀ., τὸν δ᾽ ἐπὶ τὸ Δήλιον ib.89: without dat. pers., present oneself at a place, Id.7.1; “εἰς Κύζικον” X.HG1.3.13; “ἀ. ἐνθάδε” Ar.Lys.13; “δεῦρο πάλιν ἀ.” Pl.Tht.210d, etc.
