D.54.11; “ἀ.τοῦ λόγου τυχεῖν” Id.45.19; “πρὸς τὰς ὁτουδήποτε ἀποκλείονται μεταδόσεις” refuse, Phld.Herc.1251.17.
II. c. acc. only, shut up, close, τὰς πύλας, τὰ ἱρά, Hdt.1.150, 2.133; τὰ . . πρὸς τὴν ἠῶ ἔχοντα τό τε Πήλιον ὄρος καὶ ἡ Ὄσσα ἀποκληΐει, of Thessaly, 7.129; “ἀ. τὰς ἐφόδους τῶν ἐπιτηδείων” X.HG2.4.3:—Pass., to be closed, “ἀ. αἱ πύλαι” Hdt.3.117; ἀ. ἡ Σκυθικὴ ὑπὸ Ἀγαθύρσων, i.e. is bounded by them, Id.4.100; of a road, Babr. 8.4.
2. shut up, as if in prison, “δέμας” S.OT1388, Ar.V.719; “τὴν πόλιν ἀ. μοχλοῖς” Id.Lys.487; “ἀ. τινὰ ἔνδον” D.59.41:—Pass., “ἀποκλῄεσθαι ἐν δωματίῳ” Lys.1.17.
3. shut out, “ἀ. τὴν ὄψιν” intercept, Hdt.4.7; ἀ. τὴν βλάστην τοῦ πτεροῦ bar its growth, Pl.Phdr.251d:— Pass., “τὸ φῶς ἀποκέκλεισται” Arist.Pr.904b18.
