II. after Hom., receive good or ill, enjoy or suffer, first in Hes.Op.240 ξύμπασα πόλις κακοῦ ἀνδρὸς ἀπηύρα (v.l. ἐπαυρεῖ)“; φόνον πρὸς τέκνων ἀπηύραE.Andr.1030 (lyr.). (ἀπο-ϝρα_-, augmented ἀπ-η-ϝρα_- (cf. ἠείδη, ἑώρων for ἠϝόρων); perh. cogn. with ἀπό-ϝερσε.
