II. intr., sit at or by, abs., sit, Hom. only in Od., always in impf., “ἐφῖζε” Od.3.411, 19.55; “ἔνθα . . ἐφίζεσκε” 17.331: later in pres., “βαρὺς δ᾽ ἐφίζει” A.Supp. 651 (lyr.); “ὥρα ἐφίζοισα γλεφάροις” sitting upon.
