ἐπι-φύω ,
A.make to grow, produce on or besides, Thphr.HP1.9.3.
II. Pass., with aor. 2 and pf. Act., ἐπέφυ_ν, ἐπιπέφυκα:—grow upon, [τῷ σήματι] “ἐπιπέφυκε ἐλαίηHdt.4.34; esp. as an excrescence, Arist.HA605a3 ; “ταῖς ψυχαῖς . μελανίαιPlb.1.81.7; ἐπιπεφυκώς, with or without ὑμήν, the conjunctiva, Gal.7.101, Steph.in Hp.1.88 D.: hence, adhere, cling closely to (cf. ἐμφύω), ἀμφοῖν τοῖν χεροῖν with both hands, Plb.12.10.6, cf. D.S.36.15 ; esp. of dogs, . τοῖς θηρίοις stick close to them, run them hard, Plu.Luc.1: metaph., “τοῖς πλείστοις..οἷον κῆρες ἐπιπεφύκασινPl.Lg.937d, cf. Ph.1.345 ; cleave to, ἀγαθοῖς interpol. in Plu.2.6c ; attack, τινι Id.Pomp.51 ; δόγματι, opp. ὑπερδικεῖν, Id.2.694e, cf. Jul. Or.2.86b ; ἐπιφύντα νέον ἄνδρα an upstart interloper, Plu.Cleom.16.
