II. ἐς. τὴν στρατιὴν ἐς.., of an invasion, Hdt.1.18 : but usually without στρατιάν, throw oneself into, make an inroad into, ἐς Μίλητον ib.15, cf. 16, Th.2.47, etc. ; ἐσβάλλειν ἐς τοὺς ὁπλίτας to fall upon them, Id.6.70; πρὸς πόλιν ἐσβάλλειν make an assault upon it, Id.4.25 : abs., Ar.Ach.762 ; of disease, come on, Aret. CD1.1, al. : enter a country, “εὶς τὸν τόπον” Thphr.HP9.7.1: poet. c. acc., “χῶρον εἰ.” E.
