LXX l.c., Plu.2.971a; “πίνει τὰ καρχαρόδοντα λάπτοντα” Arist.HA595a7; “τῇ γλώττῃ λ.” Ael.NA6.53; cf. κάπτω.
2. drink greedily, “αἷμα λέλαφας” Ar.Fr.l.c., cf. Epic.Alex.Adesp.l.c.; “οἶνον” Ath. 10.443e:—also in Med., λεπαστὴν λαψαμένοις gulp down, Pherecr. l.c.—In Ath.8.363a λαπάττειν shd. be restored for λάπτειν, unless it was an error of the writer, as in Eust.1413.3.
