ἀλγίων irreg. comp. and Sup. of ἀλγεινός, formed from ἄλγος (as καλλίων, -ιστος from κάλλος, αἰσχίων, -ιστος from αἶσχος） In Hom. ἄλγιον, ι short, but ι_ always in attic.
