φλαῦρος 1 collat. form of φαῦλος

I.petty, paltry, trivial, Solon., Pind., Hdt.
2.paltry, sorry, indifferent, bad, Aesch., Soph.; φλαῦρον ἐργάζεσθαί τινα to do one a mischief, Ar.; φλαῦρον εἰπεῖν τινα to speak disparagingly of him, id=Ar.
3.useless, Soph.
II.of persons, οὐ φλαυροτάτους τιμωρούς not the meanest or weakest avengers, Hdt.; τῆς στρατιῆς τὸ φλαυρότατον the least serviceable part, id=Hdt.
2.shabby, plain, of personal appearance, id=Hdt.
3.bad, opp. to χρηστός, Eur.
III.adv., φλαύρως ἔχειν to be ill, Hdt.; φλ. ἔχειν τινός to be ill off for a thing, Thuc.; but, φλαύρως ἔχειν τὴν τέχνην to know an art badly, Hdt.; φλ. ἀκούειν, like Lat. male audire, to be ill spoken of, id=Hdt.
