ἀμφίβολος ἀμφιβάλλω

I.put round, encompassing, Eur.
II.attacked on both or all sides, Aesch.; ἀμφ. εἶναι to be between two fires, Thuc.
2.act. hitting at both ends, double-pointed, Anth.
III.doubtful, ambiguous, Plat., Xen., etc.; τἀγαθὰ ἐς ἀμφίβολον ἔθεντο accounted their good fortune as doubtful, Thuc.; ἐν ἀμφιβόλωι in doubt, Luc.:—adv., οὐκ ἀμφιβόλως Aesch.
