Macăreus
(
Μακαρεύς). A son of Aeolus, who committed incest with his
sister Canacé. (See
Canacé).
Hence Issé, the daughter of Macareus, is called Macareïs. After the
suicide of Canacé, Macareus fled to Delphi, where he became the priest of Apollo.
His story is told by Ovid in the
Heroides, xi.
