, the second of the so-called Thirty Tyrants. While acting as governor of Gaul under
Valerian in A.D. 258, he caused himself to be proclaimed emperor, and, being a very able
ruler, maintained himself in power in Gaul for nearly ten years; but was slain by his own
soldiers in A.D. 267, Labienus being proclaimed in his place (Trebell. Poll.
Trig.
Tyr. ii.).
