University extension.

The American Society for the Extension of University Teaching was founded at Philadelphia in June, 1890, and incorporated in March, 1892. The aim of university extension is: first, to extend higher education to all classes of people; second, to extend education through the whole of adult life; third, to extend thorough methods of study to subjects of every-day interest.

From Philadelphia the movement has extended into many sections of the country, being established mainly, however, in connection with colleges and universities.
