havoc: “cry ,” orig. to give an army the order ‘havoc!’ as the signal for pillaging John II. i. 357, Cor. III. i. 273, Cæs. III. i. 273 “Cry ‘!’ and let slip the dogs of war,” Ham. V. ii. 378 “This quarry cries on ” (=calls for merciless slaughter).
